Some ofthe criteria involved in selecting a representative sampling are:

(i) Therepresentative sampling is done in such a way that it represents andrecognises all the relevant groups of the particular community.

Forexample if the lifestyle of working women in India has to be studiedthen five samples would be collected, each from the organized sectorand unorganized sector. Then the combined study is conducted on thebasis of these samples.

(ii) Thesesamples are randomly selected, that is, they are to be selected onthe basis of chance. This process is known as randomisation anddepends on probability. The randomisation is done through lotterymethod, rolling of dice, use of random number tables prepared forthis purpose and random number generated by calculators andcomputers.
