This is just a brief summary (hope it helps) :-

On the 26th of July, 1931, Sitaram Seksaria writes that the day was unforgettable and shall stay in the memories of all who witnessed the day's events. Calcutta was celebrating the first anniversary of independence day and was all decked up for the occasion. There was to be a declaration of independence near the monument at 4:24 pm, and hence, there was tight security near the monument and all around the city. Throughout the day, many people protested against the British and hoisted flags, and were consequently arrested. When Subhash Chandra Bose came to the monument, he too was beaten and arrested. As a result, people protested and the movement gained momentum. Even ladies' organizations actively took part in the protest. At the end of the day, though many people were injured and arrested, S. Seksaria says that it was a proud moment for all. Calcutta, infamous for its lack of participation in the struggle for independence, had finally done something worth acknowledgement.
