Sophie asked Geoff to promise that he wouldn't tell their father about her meeting with ​Danny Casey. We know that Geoff kept his promise because their father didn't like the idea of her meeting Danny Casey, even though he knew she was lying about the whole story. He felt that she talked too much and that her talking would get her into trouble. In such a scenario, their father would have never allowed Sophie to go meet Danny Casey. Yet, Sophie did go out to the canal to meet him, which would not have happened if Geoff had broken the promise.
