A plant's epidermis forms projections known as epidermal hairs. Root hairs are unicellular and located on the roots of the plant. Stems and leaves have multicellular hairs known as trichomes.

Trichomes are fine outgrowths or appendages found on plants and some protists.  Trichomes can be of many types which include unicellular, multicellular and glandular hairs and scales found on the various parts of the plant.

Root hairs are the tiny outgrowths of the roots that help in absorption of water and minerals from the soil.
