Difference between addiction and dependence

Dear student,

Difference between addiction and dependence-
Both addiction and dependence words are close and used interchangeably.
However, the term dependence is used for referring to a physical dependence on a substance characterized by tolerance and withdrawal.
While the term addiction is used for the condition in which the person using a substance cannot live without having it without a medical assistant. It is characterized by irrational behavior; they can harm themselves as well as to others when they don't get that substance.

Dependence is characterized by the symptoms of tolerance and withdrawal. While it is possible to have a physical dependence without being addicted, addiction is usually right around the corner. Addiction is marked by a change in behavior caused by the biochemical changes in the brain after continued substance abuse.
