Difference between concentrate and roughage

Dear Student
are fibres which are taken along with food for a healthy diet.

Roughage forms an important component of our food because of the following reasons:

  • They help prevent constipation by increasing the volume of stool in our body. Therefore, people who include a lot of dietary fibres in their diet suffer from fewer problems of constipation.
  • They help in retaining water in the body.
  • They help in getting rid of undigested food.
  • P.S. Kindly post separate questions in separate threads.

Roughage is mainly fibre.
Roughage does not contain many nutrients that can be digested by the animals easily.
Roughage is portion of 'food obtained' from plants.
Roughage does not provide any nutrient content.

Concentrates provide the livestock with carbohydrates and its main 'purpose' is to 'fatten' the animals.
Concentrates are nutrients that can be easily digested. ?
Concentrates contain low levels of fibres and high levels of 'proteins' and other 'nutrients'.
