difference between conidia and oidia?
Spore is a general name given to a singular fungal reproductive unit (also can be used for the reproductive units produced by some of the lower plants).
Conidia (singular form is conidium) is a more specific name given to plural spores of a specific type:
a: Conidia are reproduced asexually - sexually produced spores such as those produced by rusts, smuts, or mushrooms, for example, are not included.
b: Conidia are reproduced externally to the fungal hypha (vegetative growth structure)
c: Conidia are produced by fungi - spores produced by plants such as ferns, mosses or clubmosses are not included.
