Difference between crysta and macula

Dear student.

Inner ear is responsible for hearing as well as body balancing and maintenance of equilibrium. The semi-circular canal present in inner ear contains crista ampullaris which is an important sensory organ to sense acceleration and deceleration.

The base of the semicircular canals is swollen and form ampulla. The projecting ridges of canals in vestibular apparatus are called cristae ampullaris. The projecting ridge of saccule and utricle is called macula.
So, cristae and macula help in maintaining the body balance and equilibrium.

Regards.
