Difference between for or since?

Dear Student,

Both For and Since are used in representation of time.

Since - We use the preposition Since to refer to a specific point in time. It is generally used in present perfect or past perfect sentences.
Example - It has been raining since 8 a.m.

For - We use the preposition for to refer to an amount of time or space. It can be used in any tense.
Example - I have been walking for five hours.
