Difference between legume and non-legume

The plants that belong to family Leguminosae and produces fruits as pods are known as leguminous plants. These plants can fix atmospheric nitrogen to the soil by the presence of bacteria rhizobuim inside their root nodules. Plants like pea, beans, lentil, soybean etc. are leguminous plants.
All other plants except leguminous plants are known as non-leguminous plants. Non leguminous plants can also fix nitrogen (actinomycetes gets associated with non leguminous plant like bitterbrush and fix nitrogen). For example, rose, mango, jasmine, hibiscus etc are non- leguminous plants.
