Difference between metonymy and transferred epithet?

For example: 'restless night': the thing which is being described is actually a restless person.
Metonymy is a figure of speech in which an object or a concept is not called by its own name but is substituted with something that is closely related to it. For example: "A pen is mightier than a sword".
