Difference between red and white muscle fibres
The main difference between the red and white muscle fibres are;
Red Muscle Fibres :
Red Muscle Fibres :
- The red muscle fibres are active during the low intensity and long duration.
- They are usually active throughout all the muscular contractions.
- They are known as the slow-twitch muscle.
- The presence of large amount of myoglobin makes them red in colour.
- They are thin muscles fibres.
- The white muscle fibre becomes active at high intensity action short duration.
- They are known as the fast-twitch muscle.
- They are active during fast contraction.
- Due to less amount of myoglobin they appears white in colour.
- They are thick muscle fibres.
