difference between rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis

Dear student,

The differences between rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis are as follows :

                Osteoarthritis(OA)            Rheumatoid arthritis(RA)
It is a degenerative disease that develops because of excessive wear to the cartilage between the joints. It is an autoimmune disease, caused by a person's own immune system attacking his or her otherwise healthy body.It can affect any joint.
It is treated with either anti-inflammatory painkillers, narcotic painkillers or sometimes by giving hyaluron injections directly into the affected joints. Anti-inflammatory and corticosteroid medications are helpful.Drugs that suppress the immune system stop the immune system from attacking the joints in RA condition, preventing damage.
It mainly affects people of older age or young people who do a lot of physical work. It can affect people of any age group. Mainly women are prone to this disease.
OA develops and gets worse over a long period of time as people tend to age and put more and more wear on their joints. RA can strike and advance into a worse and disabling condition over the course of mere weeks or months.
