Animal sanctuaries give animals the opportunity to live as if they were in their natural environment. It differs from a shelter in that a shelter is usually a temporary home.

In zoos animals are kept in captivity and are provided with food and carnivores do not need to hunt, also, in zoos the exact number of animals are kept track of. In sanctuaries some animals live for a lesser span, but in zoos animals tend to live longer. And zoos have no relation to menageries. Menageries are small cages that were used by British to keep animals in captivity when they ruled India.
