Difference between
  1. literature and poem
  2. poem and poetry

Dear Student

1. Literture is a form of written work that is considered to be an artistic representation of ideas, thoughts, feelings and emotions through words. Literature can be in any language and is divided into prose or poetry which themselves can be further divided in terms of structure or genre.

2. A poem is a form of literature, and is the end product of poetry. Poems come in many different forms, each varying according to the diction used, rhyme scheme, subject matter and poetic structure. A few examples for types of poems are, Odes, sonnets, ballads, epic poems and prose poems. Whilst poetry is a form of art, a poem is a product of that form of art.

Poetry is the art of writing poems. It is a form of literature that may or may not convey meaning directly through words or sentences, rather depending heavily on aesthetic features like rhyme, structure, metre, symbolism and the creative use of language to "show" what the meaning is.
