Differencebetween mass andcharge
Dear Student,
Mass is the quantity of matter in a body regardless of its volume or of any forces acting on it.
Electric charge is the physical property of matter that causes it to experience a force when placed in an electromagnetic field.
Following are the notable differences:
Mass is the quantity of matter in a body regardless of its volume or of any forces acting on it.
Electric charge is the physical property of matter that causes it to experience a force when placed in an electromagnetic field.
Following are the notable differences:
- Charge is of two types (positive and negative), but mass is only of one type.
- There are two types of forces (attraction and repulsion) between charges, but there is only one type of force (attraction) between masses.
- Charge is quantized, but quantization of mass is not established yet.
- Charge is conserved, but mass alone is not conserved (Mass +Energy is conserved)
- Charge cannot exist without a mass, but mass can exist without a net charge.
