Differentiate between
a. Actinomorphic and zygomorphic flower.
b. Epipetalous and epiphyllous stamen.
c. Apocarpous and syncarpous ovary.
d. Tepel and petal.

Dear Student,

a) Actinomorphic

These flowers can be divided into two radial halves by any radial plane passing through its centre. Examples of these flowers include chilly and mustard.

Zygomorphic

These flowers are those flowers which can be divided into two similar halves by a single vertical plane. Examples of these flowers include pea and beans.

b) Epiphyllous means anything growing on the surface of leaf or get attached to the leaf of other plant. Ex - Lily
Epipetalous is a condition in which stamens are fused to the petals therefore, appear to arise from the petals. Ex - members of many families like Polemoniaceae etc.

c) Syncarpous is a gynoecium in which more than one carpels are present fused together. For example- Papaver.
Apocarpous is a gynoecium in which more than one carpels are present in a free condition. For example- Michelia

d) A tepal is a part of the outer layer of the flower ( collectively called Perianth) which cannot be differentiated between either Sepal or petal. Example- Found in Lilies and Tulips.
Petal - The colored part of a flower is called as petal. It is also called as corolla.
