differentiate between point mutation and frameshift mutation

Point Mutation − Mutation arising due to change in single base pair of DNA as in sickle cell anaemia. There is a substitution gene mutation for example: purine(adenine) is replaced by another purine (guanine) or purine is replaced by a pyrimidine.

Frameshift mutation

  1. Deletion: gene mutation in which one or more nitrogenous bases are lost from a segment of DNA the constitutes a gene.

  2. Insertion: gene mutation in which one or more nitrogenous bases are introduced into a segment of DNA the constitutes a gene.

in point mutation their is change in a single base pair on dna their are about 200 base pairs on a dna helix while in a frameshift mutation their is deletion in the base pair of dna or thier is insertion of base pair in the dna thus causing mutation
