Differentiate between Scattering and Dispersion of Light.

Solution :

Dispersion -
The splitting of white light in to its constituent colours is known as the dispersion of light .
When white passes through a prism then it disperses in its seven constituent colours .This deviation occurs due to different
colours of light has different wavelength .As a result when the light rays deviates from the other face of the prism then the seven colours of lights are dispersed .This phenomena of splitting light in to its seven constituent colours is known as the dispersion of white light .

Scattering -
Scattering of light is incident beam of light is redirected in many different directions when it interacts with a particle of matter . Where as dispersion of light means the different wavelength of light moves with different speed when moving through a substance .

For example,
Scattering is formation of rainbow in atmosphere after rain where as the dispersion is the breaking of white light by its constituent seven colours after passing through a prism .
