Differentiate between Zn(NO3)2 and CA(NO3)2

Dear student
Calcium nitrate and Zinc nitrate can be differentiate by the following chemical test
1.   Sodium hydroxide test
Add sodium hydroxide solution to each of the solutions. The solution in which a white precipitate soluble in excess of sodium hydroxide is Zinc nitrate  and the one which forms a white precipitate insoluble in excess of sodium hydroxide  is Calcium nitrate.
(i)  Zinc nitrate react with sodium hydroxide to produce zinc hydroxide (soluble) and sodium nitrate

                Zn(NO3)+ 2NaOH → Zn(OH)2 + 2NaNO3

(ii)  Calcium nitrate react with sodium hydroxide to produce calcium hydroxide (insoluble) and sodium nitrate.

              Ca(NO3)2 + 2NaOH → Ca(OH)2 + 2NaNO3

2.  Dilute Sulfuric acid test
Dissolved both the compounds in water and than add sulfuric acid to both. In calcium nitrate solution calcium sulfate  precipitated out.
(i)  Sulfuric acid is added to calcium nitrate than nitric acid and calcium sulphate (precipitate) are produced.

          Ca(NO3)2 + H2SO4(aq)CaSO4(s) + 2HNO3(aq)

(ii)  Sulfuric acid is added to calcium nitrate than nitric acid and zinc sulphate are produced.

Ca(NO3)2 + H2SO4(aq)ZnSO4(aq) + 2HNO3(aq)
