Discuss forest laws and their impact.

The life of Tribal groups was directly connected to the forest. So due to changes in Forest laws lives of Tribal people affected badly.Under the forest law British Extended their control over all forests and declared that forests were state property and some forests were classified as reserved forests.

Impact of forest laws on tribal people.
  • People were not allowed to move freely ,practise Jhum cultivation ,collect fruits or hunt animals.
  • Jhum cultivators were therefore forced to move to other areas in search of work and livelihood.
  • Tribal people were not allowed to live inside the forests due to this they faced a problem.
Many tribal groups reacted against the forest laws and disobeyed the new rules and led revolt against the Britishers .Like the Revolt of Songram Sangma in 1906 in Assam, and the forest satyagraha of the 1930's.
