Discuss the nature and effects of boycott agitation and national movement.

Dear Student,
Your question was not very clear. But I have answered the question based on my understanding. If you feel it should have been answered differently. Let us know.
Nature of the movement :
Boycott and Swadeshi were two faces of the same coin of the non- violent method used by Mahatma Gandhi:

  • Swadeshi movement: The term "Swadeshi" means the use of indigenous goods or domestic goods. The concept was used by Mahatma Gandhi to wage non-violent war against the British government. He knew that the main interest of the British in India was trade. He asked the people to boycott the foreign goods and use the goods made in India.
  • Boycott: To cripple the trade of colonial government, Mahatma Gandhi advocated the method of boycott or negative discrimination of British goods
Effects of Swadeshi and Boycott Movement :
Swadeshi Movement inspired Indians to love their nation and know more about its heritage and traditions. During this time, nationalist poetry, prose and journalism started to flourish across the nation. Indians were developing a sense of pride in learning and getting acquainted with national culture and traditions in national languages. This inspired Rabindranath Tagore to establish a great education center, which was named as “Shanti Niketan”. It also led to the establishment of “Dawn Society” by Satish Mukherjee. Then the need to organize a national education system was felt and subsequently, National Council of Education came into existence. This is how Swadeshi Movement left a constructive impact on the Education System in India.
