Do railways cause air pollution?

Dear students,
Earlier rail engine used to work from coal , which causes a large amount of smoke leading to the air pollution.
Now-a-days due to technology, we have electric and pollution free railways . So now railways does not cause air pollution but those working on coal now also produces smoke and causes pollution.

Earlier railways creates a lot of pollution but now a times because of unbelievable development of technology there a electric and pollution free trains . Yet it uses energy but there is a lot of means which helps us in getting electrical power . So insort , newer railways doesnt cause any pollution
