do you think that India has scope in Handloom and Handicraft Export

Dear Student

Indian handicraft sector still remains highly unorganized sector with the domestic market lacking adequate visibility. Hence, there is a good scope for leading industry players to invest and expand in to this segment and gain by catering to world demand and also by generating local demand through awareness generation among domestic customers .
Following a rise in spending on personal decoration products and home decor items, handicraft exports from developing nations have gone up in recent times. This rise is also attributable to the retailers in the developing countries who are now focusing on direct sourcing of handicraft items.
Innovation, expert craftsmanship and distinguished style are some of the success secrets behind organized retailing in handicrafts. Excellent in-store customer service, strong supply chain and distribution network, value-based pricing and prototypical positioning of products also influence the success of organized retailing in handicrafts.
During last fiscal, India exported handicraft items worth Rs. 105.34 billion, 21 percent more than the amount earned during 2009-10. Shawls as art wares, embroidered and crocheted hand-printed textiles and scarves were the items included in the list of items that showed high export growth.
