Does atmospheric pressure have to be added to obtain absolute pressure only if the top of the body is exposed to the atmosphere? If so then why is added in the submarine problem to find absolute pressure?

Absolute pressure = Pressure due to liquid  column + Atmospheric pressure

(or)

Absolute pressure = Pressure due to weight of the body + Atmospheric pressure

It is not necessary that the body is to be exposed to the atmosphere for adding atmospheric pressure to obtain absolute pressure.

Irrespective of exposed to atmosphere or not, if the body is placed in the surroundings of atmosphere, then the atmospheric pressure should
be added to obtain absolute pressure.

So, it is required to add atmosphere to obtain absolute pressure in the case of submarine problem.
