When an incident beam intensity from an ordinary source is $I_{0}$ ,beam intensity of polarized light from $P_{1}$ is $I_{0}$ /2 .If ө is the angle between $P_{1}$ and $P_{2}$ ,then according to the law of Malus, intensity of polarized light from $P_{2}$ is,

$I = \frac{I_{0}}{2} \cos^{2} θ w h e n θ = 0^{0}, I = \frac{I_{0}}{2} \cos^{2} 0 = \frac{I_{0}}{2} w h e n θ = 30^{0}, I = \frac{I_{0}}{2} \cos^{2} 30 = \frac{3}{4} (\frac{I_{0}}{2}) w h e n θ = 45^{0}, I = \frac{I_{0}}{2} \cos^{2} 45 = \frac{1}{2} (\frac{I_{0}}{2}) w h e n θ = 60^{0}, I = \frac{I_{0}}{2} \cos^{2} 60 = \frac{1}{4} (\frac{I_{0}}{2}) w h e n θ = 90^{0}, I = \frac{I_{0}}{2} \cos^{2} 90 = 0$

For the second part I= $I_{0} \cos^{2} 45 = \frac{I_{0}}{2}$

$\frac{I_{0}}{I} = \frac{2}{1} O r I_{0} : I = 2 : 1$

For the second part I= $I_{0} \cos^{2} 45 = \frac{I_{0}}{2}$ $\frac{I_{0}}{I} = \frac{2}{1} O r I_{0} : I = 2 : 1$
