Ozone (O3) is a form of oxygen and is more stable than the two-atom oxygen (O2). O3 is a tri-atomic molecule of oxygen. The ozone layer is found in the atmosphere at a height of about 15 to 30 km from the surface of the Earth.

Chorofluro carbon of general formula CXFyHz is responsible for ozone depletion. In the presence of high energetic rays, fluorine free radical is generated, which break ozone molecule to oxygen causing depletion of ozone layer.
The depletion of ozone layer occurs mainly due to fluorochlorocarbon(CFC) derivative which can be easily understood by the diagram given below:
