During the electrolysis of molten sodium chloride, the time required to produce 0.10 mol of chlorine gas using a current of 3 amperes is

2Cl- -->Cl2 (g) +2e-
                1mol          2x96500C
                 0.1mol       3xt C

     by cross multiplying ,we get
               t=0.1x2x96500/3=6433.32 s=6433.32/60=107.22 min

We know acc to the faradays law of electrolysis,
w is dirctly proportional to Q :    (where Q equals current I x time t) Q=Ixt
   w is the amt of substance in g deposited in the electrolyte

or w=Z xIxt  (eqn1)
    Z is a constant of proportionality called electrochemical equivalent of substnce deposited

Z=E/96500g where E is  EQUIVALENT MASS OF ELEMNT and acc to this ques E for chlorine is 35.5

now go to eqn 1, w=0.1 x 71( which is the no of moles of chlorine gas multiplied with the total molecular mass of chlorine gas Cl2) molar mass of Cl equals 35.5

so putting everything together we have

0.10 x 71=35.5/96500 x 3 xt
t=6433.33s
t=107.22 min nearly equals 110 min :)

this ques was asked in NEET 2016

hope my answer helps

Cl2 + 2e- >>>2Cl- 2F Cl2-----> 1 mol Cl- 0.10 mol Cl- ------> 2×F×0.10 =2×0.10×96500 =19300 C Q=i × t t= Q/i =19300/3 sec =6433.3 /60 min =107.2 min ~110 min

JUST PUT IN FORMULAE W=ZIT, where Z=E/96500(E = equivalent wt/n factor) 0.10=(27*3*t)/96500. t=119.8sec ~110 min NOTE: DON'T BE CONFUSE AFTER SEEING MOLE IN WEIGHT

According to the formula
m=zit
Given: i=3A
No of moles =0.10
Mass of chlorine= 35.5?0.10=3.55g
By using formula
m=E/F?i ? t
3.55=35.5/96500?3?t
3.55=0.00037 ? 3 ? t
3.55=0.00111?t
t=3.55/0.00111=3198.2s
