Elucidate the functions of the Parliament? 

Dear Student,

Parliament  is the supreme law making body of the country which is directly elected by the people.

a. It is the Parliament which make new laws, brings about changes in the existing laws.
b. It is the forum of debate and discussions, All policy matters, issues of national interest are debated and discussed in the Parliament.
c.  It is the parliament which also controls the purse or finance of the country. 
d. It approves the annual budget framed by the government, levies taxes, allocates resources
e. It also make grants and allots resources to the states.
f. The Parliament can also amend the constitution.
g. The Parliament also exercises control over the Executive.
Question hour is an important medium through Legislature keeps check on the Executive and through opposition criticises the policies of the government
. Parliament also keeps a check through various committees like Public accounts committee.
h. 
 Opposition inside the Parliament criticises the government and acts as a link between the people and the government.
i. Being an elected body of the people it exercises control over the government and ensures that it is responsive to the needs of the people.
