Equivalent fractions of 20/60

Dear Student,

We will use the Greatest Common Factor method to simplify it.

The GCF is the largest number between which two or more numbers can be divided evenly.

To find the GCF we list the numerator and denominator factors then we find the largest number that is repeated in both lists:
  • The factors of 20 are 1,2,4,5,10,20;
  • The factors of 60 are 1,2,3,4,5,6,10,12,15,20,30,60.

We can see that the GCD is 20 because it is the largest number by which 20 and 60 can be divided without leaving any residue.

To reduce this fraction, simply divide the numerator and denominator by 20 (the GCF).

So, 2060 = 20 / 2060 / 20  = 13

Thus, 20 / 60 is equivalent to 1 / 3 in the reduced form.
