The process of separating lighter components of a mixture from the heavier ones by using wind or moving air is known as winnowing.

The example of the winnowing includes 

1. Separation of husk from the grains of rice

2. Separation of  husk from grains of wheat etc.

this process is used to separate heavier and lighter component by wind or blowing air. for example take a mixture and put it in a newspaper.this method is commanly used to separate lighter husk particles from heavier seeds of grains. the lighter husk particles in the mixture are carried away by the wind and the heavier seedsof the grain remains in the mixture. you can try and see this experiment . thank you
