Experts I am getting confused with this.
Please help I am providing the lines of the chapter two lines.
My school teacher while teaching us the chapter said that ("Did they give up") was said by the narrator.
but when i checked this on ask and answer i got some differnt answers.
i am also uploading a pic.
please check and finsih my doubt as exams are tomorrow..

Before the sentence "Did they give up?" it is is given that, She paused and took a quick breath. The narrator indicated the nurse here.
The nurse said this sentence ,"did they give up?" . If you read the lines following after it that is ' I do not have to answer that question. They brought her here persuaded us to take her to the hospital,...." you will come to know that it is the nurse who said this. The narrator couldn't have said " Did they give up" because he saw them working doing many odd jobs and hence he knows that they didn't give up after the nurse told them their story. Besides that, when 2 people speak their dialogues are never given in the same line. But when one person speaks his dialogue can be given in 2 different lines to indicate differences in the sentence
