Dear student, The polarizing power of a cation depends on the charge /size ratio of the cation. Greater is ratio, more is the polarizing power of the cation. Now, the increasing order of sizes of given cations is: Be2+ < Mg2+ < Ca2+ < K+ and the order of charge on the cations is: K+ < Ca2+ = Mg2+ = Be2+ Therefore, order of charge to size ratio is: K+ < Ca2+ < Mg2+ < Be2+ Thus, the increasing order of polarizing power is: K+ < Ca2+ < Mg2+ < Be2+(option c)
