Dear student,
In molecular geometries, The molecules which are highly symmetrical like CO2,B​F3, CCl4 (Linear, trigonal planar​, and tetrahedral respectively), individual bond dipole moments cancelled by each other, and there is no net dipole moment.

But a molecule like CHCl3 is tetrahedral and, the atoms bonded to carbon are not similar. Therefore, the bond dipole moments cannot be cancelled by one another result in dipole moment on the molecule.
