The four parts of ruminant stomach are:

Rumen: The plant material is processed here first.

Reticulum: Cud is formed by chewing and rechewing

  1.  Rumen:The first division of the stomach of a ruminant animal, in which most food collects immediately after being swallowed and from which it is later returned to the mouth as cud for thorough chewing. Also called paunch.
  2.  Reticulum: is the second chamber in the alimentary canal of a ruminant animal.  i. Together these two compartments make up 84% of the volume of the total stomach. The reticulum is located between the rumen and the omasum.
  3.  Omasum: is the third compartment of the stomach in ruminants. Though its functions have not been well-studied, it appears to primarily aid in the absorption of water, magnesium, and the volatile fatty acids produced by rumen , that have not been absorbed into the bloodstream yet. The numerous folds of its mucosa are thought to trap digesta particles so the maximum amount of nutrients may be absorbed.

Abomasum :is the fourth and final stomach compartment in ruminants. It secretes rennet, which is used in cheese creation.
