Explain briefly, why adrenaline is called the emergency hormone?

Adrenaline is known as the emergency hormone because it is released by the adrenal glands under conditions of stress or excitement. This hormone is also a part of the body’s stress response called the fight or flight response. Adrenaline performs various functions in the body such as the following.
  • It increases the supply of oxygen and glucose to the muscles and the brain.
  • It increases the heart rate and the amount of blood pumped by the heart per beat.
  • It dilates the air passage and constricts the blood vessels.
