Explain Fig 2.13 (water purification system in water works) step by step.PS: I have seen similar questions on MeritNation but the answers are not step by step. Neither do they explain about WATER WORKS. They just explain the various techniques used.

Looking for a better answer. Hoping for a quick reply :D

Also how does chlorination kill bacteria and not harm us?

Water purification system in water works Water works It is the place where purification of water takes place. Water in rivers, ponds or other water sources contain a number of impurities. It is contaminated with heavy impurities like household waste, some suspended impurities and also with bacteria Step 1: Sedimentation tank After the water is taken from the reservoir in water works it is transferred to the sedimentation tank. This process of sedimantation allows the solid impurities from the water of reservoir to settle down at the boytom and the water to move on to the next tank - LOADING TANK Step 2: Loading tank It is then passed to second tank, loading tank, so that the settled impurities are loaded down as sediments. Step 3: Filtration tank It is transferred to filtration tank where different impurities such as fine sand, gravel and coarse gravel is filtered. Step 4: Chlorination tank In the chlorination tank, the water in this tank is filtered but contains many bacteria. Thus, chlorine is added to this water to kill all the bacteria in this tank and is then transferred to homes via pipelines through taps.
