Explain how non monetary exchanges are a limitation in taking gross domestic product as an index of welfare ?

Dear student,

GNP does not take into account those transactions that are not expresses in monetary terms. Such transactions that particularly take place in the rural and household sector are not considered a part of GDP. This leads to underestimation the GDP. In this regard GDP cannot be regarded as the index of welfare.
