Prussia achieved dominance due to the diplomacy of its chancellor, Bismarck. In the 1860s,Prussia under his leadership was able to defeat Denmark, Austria and France in three short and decisive wars. Though these wars, he aligned the smaller German states behind Prussia. In 1871, he was able to declare Germany as a unified nation-state under the leadership of Prussia.
