In the first equation on the leftside the oxidation state of the S is found to be +4. While on the RIGHT SIDE ITS OXIDATION STATE IS FOUND TO BE +6. THUS THE OXIDATION OF THE S TAKES PLACE. And according to the definition the substance whose oxidation takes place is said to be reducing agent.
