Causes
- An earthquake is the shaking and vibration of the Earth's crust due to movement of the Earth's plates (plate tectonics).
- Earthquakes can happen along any type of plate boundary.
- Earthquakes occur when tension is released from inside the crust.
What really causes it?
Tectonic plates are the lithosphere of the earth divided into a small number of plates which float on and travel independently over the mantle and much of the earthquakes occur at the boundaries of these plates.
When two tectonic plates rub against each other, they start generating a tremendous amount of friction. This friction causes the land above the shake due to the production of seismic waves, causing any structure to collapse.
