Rural development refers to the actions and initiatives taken for the social and economic development of the rural or backward areas. ​Rural development can be categorised into social and economic development. Social development refers to the abolition of social evils like dowry, child marriage,land reforms etc. While, economic development refers to the increase in employment opportunities, increase in income of the rural people, etc.
