Explain the attempt to unify Germany in 1848.

Dear Student,
The Crimean War, a conflict which destroyed the Concerts of Europe led to the revolution for the unification. The Crimean War put two of Europe's largest powers and allies Austria and Russia became the enemies. It was a Confederation or grouping of Prussia, Bavaria, Saxony, and the Grand Duchy of Baden.
It collapsed due to the rivalry between Prussia and Austria, warfare. The 1848 revolution, and the inability of the several members to compromise resulted as it was replaced by the North German Confederation in 1866.
The Revolutions of 1848 led to little political change but brought substantial social and cultural changes. The middle class in Europe made political and economic gains over the next decades. France retained the universal male suffrage.
The revolutions inspired the lasting reform in Denmark and the Netherlands. They all came united in 1848 to create a nation-state out of the various German States.
But the monarchy and the military members got together to repress them and they gained support from the landowners of Prussia (the Junkers). Prussia became the leader of the German unification movement.
The widespread dissatisfaction with the political leadership, the demand for more participation and democracy, the demands of the working classes, the upsurge of nationalism were some causes of the revolutions.
