Polysaccharide is the long chain carbohydrate made up of many monomeric units (sugars) joined together by glycosidic bonds. They are classified into two main types:

1. Homopolysaccharides are the polymers that consist of only one kind of sugar molecule. E.g, cellulose is a homopolysaccharide consists of only monosaccharide units of glucose joined together by glycosidic bonds.
2. Heteropolysaccharides are the type of polysaccharides which consist of different type of  monomer units such as heparin.
