Polysaccharide is the long chain carbohydrate made up of many monomeric units (sugars) joined together by glycosidic bonds. They are classified into two main types:
- Homopolysaccharides are the polymers that consist of only one kind of sugar molecule. E.g, cellulose is a homopolysaccharide consists of only monosaccharide units of glucose joined together by glycosidic bonds.
- Heteropolysaccharides are the type of polysaccharides which consist of different type of monomer units such as heparin.
