explain the figures of speech and name all
Dear Student
Figure of speech can be a word or a phrase that means something entirely different than its literal meaning. A figure of speech is often used in speeches as rhetoric or in stories or poems in the form of similes, metaphors, personification, alliteration, hyperbole etc.
Some examples are
He was as proud as a peacock (Does not mean a person is acting like a peacock, it is merely a form of comparison).
He was a lion on the battlefield (Does not mean a person became a lion, but merely fought with the ferocity and courage of a lion).
How am I ever going to repay you? (rhetorical figure of speech, asked to a person or a crowd, to create an effect, but no answer is expected)
Regards
