Dear student,

(a) Sand Meyer's reaction:

(b) Finkelstein reaction:

  • The   Finkelstein reaction involves the exchange of one halogen for another, especially, in primary alkyl halides. It is used to synthesize one alkyl halide from another.

  • The Finkelstein reaction is an S 2 reaction that involves the exchange of lighter halogen atom by heavier halogen atom from alkyl halide. Halide exchange is an equilibrium reaction.

  • CH -CH -Cl + KI   http://www.extramarks.com/stryde/uploadfiles/Image/20070914353755001189771494_2602_0656.gifCH -CH -I + KCl

(c)

The Synthesis Of Alkyl Fluorides Is The Best Accomplished By Heating An Alkyl Bromide Or Chloride In Presence Of Metallic Fluoride Such As AgF, SbF3, Hg2F2 And CoF2.

This Reaction Is Termed As Swartz Reaction.

Given Below Reaction Favours Swartz Reaction -

H3C - Br + AgF → H3C - F + AgBr

Note That In This Reaction Halogens Are Exchanged Respectively. Here F And Br Are Exchanged As Halogens.
