Explain the formation of fringes due to a single slit, when path difference of light waves from the ends of the slit on reaching a point is (i)lambda (ii)3/2 lambda.

-Wave Optics

Solution
Diffraction through single slit is well explained in our studymaterial. Link is given below

Formation of fringes
When path difference is λ
We get general condition of minima
asinθ=nλ   ...(ii)

The position of nth maxima will be given by
asinθ=(n+1/2)λ
n =1
asinθ=(3/2)λ

So when path difference is (3/2)λ we get secondary maxima.
