Explain the meaning of inertia. Give appropriate examples to explain the inertia of rest and inertia of motion.

Example for inertia of rest -

A ball is at rest, it will be at rest untill unless some external force is applied on it. For e.g. until unless we hit the ball with a bat or touch it with your hand it will not come to motion. So it means that a body have interia by which it can resist its motion and will be continiue to be at rest until a force is applied.

Example of interia of motion-

Let me take again the example of a ball, but this time the ball is in motion. So a ball will not stop untill unless any external force is applied on it. for e.g. if we catch the ball then only it will come to rest or else if the frictional n gravitational force acts on the ball then it can come to rest. over here gravitational force anf frictional force are the external force acting on the ball.
