Explain the method used to seperate wheat, sugar and stalk?

We have a mixture of wheat, stalk and sugar. Now as sugar is the only component of the three that is soluble in water, dissolve this mixture in water. The sugar dissolves, while stalk and wheat remain undissolved. Separate the insoluble stalk and wheat from this solution. Allow the solution to evaporate. This gives you the sugar back. Now dry the stalk and wheat. This can now be easily separated by threshing.

stalk can be seperated from wheat and sugar by handpicking. can wheat and sugar be seperated by seiving? or by making sugar to dissolve in water and afterwards heating to make water evaporate? which one is best ? thats is my question or is there any other method?
