Explain the nature of zinc oxide with the help of reaction

Dear Student,

Zinc Oxide is a amphoteric oxide in nature, metal oxides are basic in nature and reacts with acids forming salts in precipitation state but amphoteric oxides like Zinc Oxide reacts with both basic and acidic solutions. The reaction scheme of ZnO reacting in both acid and basic condition are expressed below,

$ZnO+2HCl⇔ZnC{l}_{2}+{H}_{2}O\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}ZnO+2NaOH⇔N{a}_{2}Z{n}_{2}{O}_{2}+{H}_{2}O$

Regards.
